Living with physical disabilities

A physical disability, whether from birth, an accident or a health condition, can make some everyday tasks harder. It should not stop anyone from living their life in the way they choose.

We plan care around your life, whether you need help for a short visit each day or a carer with you around the clock. You stay in charge of how it is done.

What families often tell us is hard

  • Getting up, washing, dressing and using the toilet
  • Moving safely, including using hoists or other equipment
  • Cooking, housework and shopping
  • Getting to work, appointments and social activities
  • Needing support at night

How our carers can help

  • Personal care and continence support, on your terms
  • Carers trained in moving and handling
  • Help with meals, housework and shopping
  • Support getting out, to work, study or activities
  • Waking nights, sleepovers or live-in care
  • Care for adults both under and over 65

Our carers provide personal care and practical support, not nursing or medical treatment. We work alongside your GP, nurses and specialist teams. This page is general information, not medical advice: please speak to your GP, call NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency.

Common questions

Can I use direct payments?

If your council funds your care, you can usually ask for a direct payment to choose your own provider. Ask us how this would work with Faith’s Walk.

Are carers trained to use hoists and equipment?

All our carers complete moving and handling training before working unsupervised. Tell us about your equipment at your free assessment, so your carer is fully briefed.
