Living with mental health conditions

Conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia can affect how someone feels, thinks and copes from day to day. They can make it hard to keep up with self-care, meals, appointments or seeing people.

Reliable, respectful support at home can bring structure and reassurance, alongside the care from your GP or mental health team.

What families often tell us is hard

  • Finding it hard to get up, wash or eat regularly
  • Feeling isolated or anxious about going out
  • Keeping on top of medication and appointments
  • Keeping the home in order
  • Family members worried and needing support

How our carers can help

  • Friendly, consistent carers and a steady daily routine
  • Encouragement and help with personal care and meals
  • Medication prompts and appointment reminders
  • Company, and support getting out into the community
  • Help around the home
  • Working with your GP, social worker and mental health team

Our carers provide personal care and practical support, not nursing or medical treatment. We work alongside your GP, nurses and specialist teams. This page is general information, not medical advice: please speak to your GP, call NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency.
