Respite Care

When a family carer needs a break, through sickness, a holiday or an emergency, our carers step in so care carries on as normal.

About this service

Caring for a loved one is rewarding, but everyone needs a break. When you need time to rest, recover or deal with a family emergency, our respite carers take over the things you normally do.

Respite care can be live-in or on a visiting basis, for a few days or a few weeks. An individual support plan is agreed before care starts, so our carers know exactly how your loved one likes things done.

How we can help

  • Personal care, including dressing, showering and toileting
  • Mobility support around the home
  • Companionship and emotional support
  • Cooking meals and food shopping
  • Housekeeping, washing and drying clothes
  • Administering medication at the correct times
  • Trips out to see family and friends
  • Catheter and continence support, and caring for pets

Who is it for?

Family carers who need a planned break or emergency cover.

Respite Care: common questions

How long can respite care last?

Respite care can be live-in or on a visiting basis, for a few days or a few weeks — planned in advance or arranged in an emergency.

Will the respite carer know how my loved one likes things done?

Yes. An individual support plan is agreed before care starts, so our carers know your loved one’s routine and preferences.
