Living with end-of-life care

Many people would prefer to spend their final months, weeks or days at home, surrounded by the people and things they love. Palliative and end-of-life care focuses on comfort, dignity and quality of life.

Medical care and pain relief are led by the GP, district nurses and palliative care or hospice teams. Our carers support the person and family with everything around that care, day and night.

What families often tell us is hard

  • Wanting to stay at home rather than go to hospital or a hospice
  • Family members exhausted and needing rest
  • Needing someone present during the night
  • Help with washing, comfort and eating and drinking
  • Coordinating lots of different professionals

How our carers can help

  • Gentle personal care that protects comfort and dignity
  • Someone with you overnight, or a live-in carer
  • Working alongside district nurses, GPs and hospice teams
  • Company and emotional support for the person and family
  • Support with meals, drinks and running the home
  • Giving family the time simply to be together

Our carers provide personal care and practical support, not nursing or medical treatment. We work alongside your GP, nurses and specialist teams. This page is general information, not medical advice: please speak to your GP, call NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency.
